Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KEY ELEMENT (P Mxoli) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. b) JUST BE NICE (D de Gouveia) jumped outwards and made contact with the left side gate when leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BELLEVARDE (P Strydom) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led, riderless, by a Handler. Upon his arrival at the start, Jockey P Strydom expressed his concern with this mare's manners that she exhibited en-route to the start. He stated that he was reluctant to ride her as he felt that his safety would be compromised if she showed the same racing manners during the event. The Stewards considered whether they should afford Jockey Strydom the indulgence of him not fulfilling his engagement as he was bound to do in terms of the provisions of Rule 21.13 and ruled that he would not do justice to his commitments as a professional rider in the circumstances. Consequently, Jockey Strydom was permitted to be replaced on his engaged ride. Jockey C Zackey replaced Jockey P Strydom on BELLEVARDE, causing a delay. Trainer JA Soma will be advised that should this mare behave in a similar manner in future engagements, she may be suspended. b) KEY ELEMENT (P Mxoli) was directed outwards to continue its run at the 200m. c) RUNWAY BOMB, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AP Peter was advised.
