THE STARTER REPORTED: a) OFFICER IN COMMAND (K Matsunyane) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) MASTER CHRISTMAS (C Zackey) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. c) TO THE RESCUE (J P van der Merwe) fly-jumped leaving the stalls. d) KAROO GOLD (S Khumalo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, MASTER CHRISTMAS (C Zackey) was bumped by OFFICER IN COMMAND (K Matsunyane), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) TO THE RESCUE (J P van der Merwe) raced with an awkward head carriage throughout. c) Approaching the 1200m, EIGER SANCTION (G Lerena) was unbalanced after being steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of GAMER (D Schwarz), which shifted in when insufficiently clear, and the inside running rail. Jockey D Schwarz was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of GAMER, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to EIGER SANCTION (G Lerena) when he shifted in when insufficiently clear approaching the 1200m. Jockey D Schwarz signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days. Suspension dates: 8 January 2024 to 14 January 2024 (both days inclusive). d) The neck strap on KAROO GOLD (S Khumalo) became dislodged at the 350m. e) An inquiry will be opened into why GAMER (D Schwarz) had to ease at the 250m. f) KAROO GOLD (S Khumalo) and CRIMSON FOREST (C Habib) came together and brushed at the 150m. g) EIGER SANCTION (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) TO THE RESCUE was ridden by Jockey J P van der Merwe (declared 7 January 2024 at 08H26). b) GAMER was ridden by Jockey D Schwarz (declared 7 January 2024 at 08hH43).
