Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WILLIAM'S LEGACY (M Yeni), FUTURE AFRICA (JP van der Merwe), AND IT'S OVER (J Gates) and PIPER OF HAMELIN (L Mxothwa) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, KITTY MO (C Maujean) and AND IT'S OVER (J Gates) made contact when both horses shifted ground. b) Leaving the 1000m WESTERN JACK (R Fourie) was carried in and then had to be steadied away from the heels of CHARGE AHEAD (M Mjoka). BRIDGERTON (S Khumalo), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence, which resulted in WILLIAM'S LEGACY (M Yeni) having to be checked away from the heels of BRIDGERTON (S Khumalo) and FUTURE AFRICA (JP van der Merwe) having to be severely checked and becoming unbalanced after clipping the heels of WILLIAM'S LEGACY (M Yeni). An Inquiry will be held into this incident. c) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that he felt something amiss with FUTURE AFRICA and he did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) FUTURE AFRICA (JP van der Merwe) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders) e) BRIDGERTON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
