Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STREETS AHEAD (C Zackey) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) MIDNIGHT CRYSTAL (C Habib) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After jumping awkwardly, STREETS AHEAD (C Zackey) raced green throughout. b) Leaving the 400m, HEART AND MIND (K Matsunyane) which shifted in away from the crop, had to steady when awkwardly placed on the heels of TABBY KAT (M Khan). When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for HEART AND MIND's poor performance, Jockey Matsunyane explained to the Stewards that this filly had been above herself in the parade ring and cantering down to the start. She then raced very keenly from the start and had over-exerted herself which resulted in her fading out in the concluding stages. Jockey Matsunyane's version was corroborated by the patrol film. In view of the performance from HEART AND MIND, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Trainer P F Matchett was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables. c) BLINDEDBYTHELIGHTS (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Peter advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) TABBY KAT raced equipped with blinkers (declared 15 February 2022 at 11H32). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) HEART AND MIND examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) STREETS AHEAD brush wound right front. SCRATCHED: a) KITTY CORNER elevated temperature (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
