THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PONTIAC (C Zackey) and VAR PARK (P Strydom) stumbled leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) WAR QUEEN (*T Mayhew) shifted out away from the crop from the 300m. b) Jockey G Lerena felt something amiss with KALAHARI BLUE in running and eased this gelding out of the race from the 300m. Thereafter, Jockey G Lerena reported that KALAHARI BLUE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey P Mxoli reported that he felt something amiss with TRE AMICI in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning TRE AMICI, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer P F Matchett was advised. d) VAR PARK (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee H Chauque, acting on behalf of Trainer G J Maroun, was advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) VAR PARK was ridden by Jockey P Strydom (declared 17 January 2024 at 10H56). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) INAFIX raced with a cornell collar (declared 16 January 2024), equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 18 January 2024 at 04H06). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) KALAHARI BLUE lame left front. Specimens collected for analysis. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies.
