THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TRIP TO NEBRASKA (R Venniker) lost 2 lengths. b) THE GREEN GALLANT (R Khathi) lost 3 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) BANDMASTER (S Moodley) over-raced in the early and middle stages and thereafter compounded in the final straight. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) The saddle on IRON MONGER (C Habib) slipped backwards in running. This was confirmed by the patrol films. c) ONLY A POET (T Godden) was hanging out from the 350m and shifted out sharply away from the crop approaching the 200m. d) Apprentice S Hlengwa signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (Appendix E, Guideline M), in that as the rider of TRITON, he misused his crop by striking this gelding more than 12 times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the Race. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R4000 was imposed. e) ONLY A POET (T Godden), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
