Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	Fair start.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, BIG UNIT cast its left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
b)	Shortly after the start, OLIVER (C Orffer) rolled in away from BRISTOL HERCULES (R Danielson) and made contact with TRIPPI'S SILK (G Wright).
c)	GUARDING THE WALL (C ZACKEY) and VENGEANCE FOREVER (J Solomons) proved difficult to settle in the early stages.
d)	At the 500m HARD WINTER (A Arries) had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of VENGEANCE FOREVER (J Solomons), which was hanging in.
e)	Leaving the 400m OLIVER (C Orffer) was steadied and directed inwards when close to the heels of BIG UNIT (L Mxothwa). Thereafter, OLIVER (C Orffer) was hanging out in the latter stages.
f)	At the 300m GRAVITY (JP van der Merwe), which showed a tendency to hang outwards, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of OLIVER (C Orffer) and close to the heels of TRIPPI'S SILK (G Wright).
g)	HARD WINTER (A Arries) returned suffering from a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders)
h)	BIG UNIT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (WM)
