THE STARTER REPORTED: a) COOL RUNNINGS (D Schwarz) and HALLERBOS (R Khathi) jumped slow, losing one length. b) CLAP OF THUNDER (M van Rensburg) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GUNSMOKE was hanging in in the latter stages. b) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that he felt something amiss with CLAP OF THUNDER and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Race 6 contd. c) CLAP OF THUNDER (M van Rensburg) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr M Bawden) d) Jockey D Ashby reported that TIMBAVATI RIVER did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) AMERICAN DREAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
