Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SAGE KING (*T Mayhew) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) COUNT YOUR CHANCES (N Klink) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BRIDGE OF SPIES (*N Nastili) pulled hard in the early stages. b) MITCH GOT HIS WISH (D De Gouveia) over-raced in the early and middle stages and, as a consequence, raced wide around the turn and into the straight. c) At approximately the 350m, COUNT YOUR CHANCES (N Klink) was directed outwards to avoid the heels of WALLED GARDEN (C Maujean), which was switched in to avoid running onto the heels of BRIDGE OF SPIES (*N Nastili), which after racing prominently, commenced to give ground to the field from the 400m. d) Jockey R Munger appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride on WILLOW EXPRESS. He explained to the Board that this gelding has a very short run-in and runs his best races when held up for as long as possible. He further confirmed that these were his instructions from Trainer S G Tarry. e) NORDIC REBEL (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Verdonese advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SAMTHEWISEMAN was ridden by Jockey M Yeni (declared 22 February 2024 at 08H45).
