Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL (R Fourie) stood as the start was effected, losing four lengths. b) BLACK PATH (C Bantam) jumped slow, losing one length. c) SEEKING PEACE (C Zackey) was restless in the stalls and jumped awkwardly. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The Stewards reviewed the start of this race with regard to SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL (R Fourie) in stall gate 9 and established that this mare had stood as the start was effected, losing ground, and was not impeded in any way. No further action was taken. b) At the 250m LOOK FORWARD (JP van der Merwe) was carried outwards marginally and had to be steadied briefly when close to the heels of BENEATH THE MOON (K Steyn), which was hanging out and shifted out. Thereafter, leaving the 200m SEEKING PEACE (C Zackey), which was racing on the outside of LOOK FORWARD (JP van der Merwe), was steadied briefly and directed inwards when close to the heels of BENEATH THE MOON (K Steyn), which continued to hang out and shifted out across SEEKING PEACE's (C Zackey) racing line. A Steward called for a race review which was followed by Trainer JMT Stewart lodging an objection on behalf of SEEKING PEACE (C Zackey), placed 2nd by the Judge, against BENEATH THE MOON (K Steyn), placed 1st by the Judge, on the grounds of interference in the latter stages. The Objection Board, after giving due regard to the evidence put forward, reviewing the patrol films and giving consideration of the margin of 0,05 of a length between the two horses concerned, was satisfied that but for the interference SEEKING PEACE (C Zackey) would have finished ahead of BENEATH THE MOON (K Steyn) had this incident not occurred and therefore upheld the Objection. Trainer PAW Botha appeared before the Board with regards to the racing manners of BENEATH THE MOON as the Stewards had noted that this filly has a history of hanging out in races. Trainer PAW Botha has undertaken to change the equipment used on this filly in an attempt to prevent BENEATH THE MOON from hanging in future races. c) In view of the report from the Starter regarding SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL (R Fourie), this mare's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 06/03/2024 to 12/03/2024 inclusive). SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL may not be presented for re-passing during this period. d) BENEATH THE MOON, placed 2nd after objection, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PAW Botha was advised.
