Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAROLD THE DUKE (S Khumalo) jumped slow, losing two lengths. b) DAWN CLOUD (JP van der Merwe), MO FLOW (X Ndlovu), GIVE US A SMILE (L Mxothwa) and LORD NELSON (*DB Geerthsen) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GIVE US A SMILE (L Mxothwa) over raced in the early and middle stages. b) Jockey D Ashby reported that KING OF SEVILLE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) The saddle on REACH FOR THE STARS (M Yeni) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by a Stipendiary Steward. d) Apprentice DB Geerthsen was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of LORD NELSON he misused his crop by striking LORD NELSON more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Apprentice DB Geerthsen signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2 000,00. e) PUERTO PLATA (ARG), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
