Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SILVER IDOL (S Veale) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FUTURE GEM (D Schwarz) refused to settle in the early and middle stages and raced to the front of the field. b) At the 250m, RED RACKHAM (JP van der Merwe) shifted in away from the crop and had to be straightened. c) Approaching the 200m, LORD QUINN (X Carstens) shifted in and had to be steadied and directed inwards to avoid the heels of ALADDIN'S LAMP (L Mxothwa). Jockey X Carstens appeared before the Board as the Stewards had noticed that he had ceased with his riding shortly before the finish. He was advised that while the Stewards accepted that his finishing position had not been affected, he still has an obligation to ride his mounts, at least hands and heels, to the finish. d) Leaving the 200m MOONACRES (A Domeyer), which initially shifted out away from the crop ,was directed to the outside of RED RACKHAM (JP van der Merwe) to continue its run. e) MOONACRES, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
