THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STORM COMMANDER (C Zackey) was nervous in the stalls. b) OFFICIAL SECRET (*N Nastili), SAY YES (D Schwarz), THEN IN FOCUS (Y Ramzan) and MAGNUM FIRE (KA Brewer) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MAGICAL MIDLANDS was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen analysed at 15h39 revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer K Mitchley was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer K Mitchley was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 15h49 had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently MAGICAL MIDLANDS was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 16h00, 8/1 in the betting). MAGICAL MIDLANDS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (Dr E Reynders) b) OFFICIAL SECRET (*N Nastili) raced wide without cover on the turn and into the straight. c) Jockey L Mxothwa reported that he felt something amiss with DOWSER and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) PAINITE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised.
