Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	Fair start.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, RIO QUERARI (A Domeyer) and MUFASA (L Mxothwa) cast their left front shoes on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
b)	Approaching the 400m TOUGH TERRAIN (J Solomons) and BEREAVE (G Wright) brushed on two occasions when BEREAVE (G Wright) commenced to hang out and rolled out.
c)	At the 250m ICY BLAST (M Mjoka) was carried inwards by QUESTIONING (A Arries), which was hanging out, shifted out and was immediately straightened.
d)	Approaching the 100m TOUGH TERRAIN (J Solomons) was brushed outwards by BEREAVE (G Wright) and made heavy contact with hindquarters of RIO QUERARI (A Domeyer) when BEREAVE (G Wright), which was hanging out badly, shifted out and proved difficult to straighten. In this incident, both BEREAVE (G Wright) and RIO QUERARI (A Domeyer) were turned and became unbalanced and TOUGH TERRAIN (J Solomons) had to be steadied. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine BEREAVE. The racing manners of BEREAVE were brought to the attention of Trainer AN Marcus as this gelding has shown a tendency to hang out in previous races. Trainer Marcus has undertaken to trial this gelding with various different equipment prior to BEREAVE's next start and has also suggested that he may request that the Jockeys riding this gelding in future races not use the crop as, in his opinion, this may be something that BEREAVE resents. Mr Marcus was advised to notify the Stewards of any changes that he may make prior to this gelding's next start so this information may be disseminated to the racing public.
e)	QUESTIONING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (SC)
