THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WILLOWCEDE (KA Brewer) was stubborn loading. b) CRIMSON COMET (*N Nastili) and WALT WHITMAN (R Fourie) were stubborn loading and thereafter, were slow into stride. c) KING'S SAILOR (C Maujean) was nervous in the stalls. d) FIRST LORD (Y Ramzan) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, FIRST LORD (Y Ramzan) was steadied when close to the heels of VELVET VALOUR (S Khumalo). Thereafter, FIRST LORD (Y Ramzan) raced without cover in the early stages and, as a consequence, proved difficult to settle and tired quickly in the straight. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine FIRST LORD (Y Ramzan). b) Approaching the 100m WALT WHITMAN (R Fourie) shifted in away from crop and had to be straightened. c) NIKES RAY OF LIGHT (C Zackey) was hanging in from the 150m. d) Jockey S Khumalo reported that VELVET VALOUR took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) Trainer GD Smith was charged with a contravention of Rule 11.2.8 in that he failed to ensure that FIRST LORD was correctly equipped when presented in the parade ring. Trainer GD Smith signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 500.00. f) GOLDEN LINK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised.
