Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PLUM PUDDING (C Orffer) and BORN READY (K Steyn) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) HAMPSTEAD HEATH was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer AN Marcus was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer AN Marcus was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently HAMPSTEAD HEATH was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 16h18, 28/10 in the betting). HAMPSTEAD HEATH was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised. (KvdB) b) After being slow to begin, PLUM PUDDING (C Orffer) was squeezed out shortly after the start between CATTALEYA (A Arries) and HELIOTROPE (M Winnaar), both of which shifted ground marginally. c) Jockey JP van der Merwe (LICKETY SPLIT) dropped his crop at the 400m. d) At the 200m CATTALEYA (A Arries) which had come to the end of its run, was steadied briefly when close to the heels of GREEN ISLE (O Noach), which rolled out. Shortly thereafter, Jockey O Noach (GREEN ISLE) hesitated with his riding when close to the outside running rail. e) Jockey A Arries reported that he felt something amiss with CATTALEYA and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) COULDITBE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (DD) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) J Solomons rode COULDITBE (declared 16h16 on 20240518) (Jockey L Mxothwa was stood down by the course Medical Officer. Rule 25.12 applied) Jockey L Mxothwa was interviewed by the Stewards and his attention was drawn to his recent record of being sanctioned for being overweight and being stood down on medical grounds. He was advised that after the Stewards had consulted with a racecourse Medical Officer, that there were a number of concerns associated with his difficulty in making certain riding weights and the lengths that he has to go to to weigh out at a carded weight. The Stewards told him that with immediate effect he will be restricted to a riding weight of 56.5kgs and that they would consider lifting this restriction once he is able to comfortably satisfy them of his ability to draw a weight lower than 56.5kgs. He was advised that this was in the interest of his own personal wellbeing and to ensure that horses raced at the carded weights. b) K Steyn rode BORN READY (declared 16h20 on 20240518) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) CATTALEYA - examined post-race.
