Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	PORTCULLUS (S Khumalo) was re-saddled at the start, causing a delay. While being re-saddled, the bridle on PORTCULLUS (S Khumalo) broke and had to be replaced, causing a further lengthy delay.
b)	ANCHOR MAN (C Maujean) was stubborn loading.
c)	JET BUND (C Habib) and PORTCULLIS (S Khumalo) jumped slow, losing two lengths.
d)	MASTER OF DEFENSE (C Zackey) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	The Stewards examined the bridle that had been fitted to PORTCULLIS and found it to be in good working order.
b)	Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with MASTER OF DEFENSE, which proved difficult to settle in the early stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c)	MASTER OF DEFENSE (C Zackey) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr M Bawden)
d)	At the 600m and again at the 500m, ELECTRIC STORM (M van Rensburg) had to be steadied briefly when awkwardly placed on the outside of MASTER OF DEFENSE (C Zackey), which shifted out away from the crop and had to be corrected.
e)	COME ON YOU SPURS (Y Ramzan) was hanging in from the 200m.
f)	Jockey S Khumalo reported that PORTCULLIS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g)	In view of the performance of WAR SWORD (*DB Geerthsen), which raced wide on the turn and into the straight, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. 
h)	TO THE HILT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
