THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPTAIN FONTANE (M Mjoka) jumped slow, losing three lengths. b) WE'RE JAMMING (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing one length. c) MARIGOLD HOTEL (G van Niekerk) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BEREAVE (C Orffer) was hanging out from the 400m and shifted out between the 150m and the finish. b) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with MARIGOLD HOTEL and eased this mare out of the race in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) CAPTAIN FONTANE (M Mjoka) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders) d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding CAPTAIN FONTANE (M Mjoka), Trainer VH Marshall will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. e) MEU CAPITANO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer ELP Steyn was advised.
