THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HELIOTROPE (M Winnaar) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) AMONG THE CLOUDS (R Fourie) over raced in the early stages and was hanging out in the straight. b) At the 50m LICKETY SPLIT (JP van der Merwe) was steadied away from the heels of GREEN ISLE (C Zackey) when carried outwards by COULDITBE (J Solomons), which shifted out. Jockey J Solomons appeared before the Board and was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. c) Jockey R Fourie reported that AMONG THE CLOUDS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on CATTALEYA, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer, resulting in a change of rider. Jockey G van Niekerk signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2 000.00. e) GREEN ISLE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
