THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NAVY STRENGTH (JP van der Merwe) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BLUE BAY was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently BLUE BAY was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 15h59, 10/1 in the betting). BLUE BAY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised (Dr E Reynders). b) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with MARSHALL FIELD. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey R Fourie reported that, in his opinion, the performance of TIME FOR LOVE was disappointing. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) FLOWER OF SAIGON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
