THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HOWZIT BOET (M Yeni) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) DIWALI ROCKET (S Khumalo) and ORANGE COUNTY (C Habib) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, DIWALI ROCKET (S Khumalo) and HOWZIT BOET (M Yeni) came together and bumped. b) SPIRITO SELVAGGIO (K Matsunyane) raced green c) DIWALI ROCKET (S Khumalo) hung out from the 400m. d) BACCHUS (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) SPIRITO SELVAGGIO is a gelding, gelded 10 January 2024. Trainer B Crawford was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.6.1 in that he failed to notify the local office of the National Horseracing Authority within two (2) business days that SPIRITO SELVAGGIO had been gelded. Assistant Trainer J Crawford, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R500. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MICKEY BLUE EYES mouth injury. b) SPIRITO SELVAGGIO scalp wound right hind. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
