THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BYTHELITEOFTHEMOON (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing two lengths. b) BACK TO BASICS (*DB Geerthsen) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ABSOLU NOIR was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer E Kaknis was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer E Kaknis was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 37 mmol/L and that consequently ABSOLU NOIR was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h53, 33/1 in the betting). ABSOLU NOIR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Kaknis was advised (Dr E Reynders) b) BYTHELITEOFTHEMOON (R Fourie) over raced in the early and middle stages. c) Leaving the 300m EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (Y Ramzan) was held up for a number of strides and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of AQUILA GOLD (S Naidoo) and the inside running rail. d) DUKE OF ORANGE (*N Nastili) was hanging inwards from the 200m. e) In the concluding stages BYTHELITEOFTHEMOON (R Fourie) had to be steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the outside of WILLIAM THE FIRST (L Mxothwa), which shifted outwards sharply. f) BACK TO BASICS (*DB Geerthsen) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders) g) DUKE OF ORANGE (*N Nastili) returned with a unilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1.
