THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO THUNEE PLAYA (D SCHWARZ) BEING SUBJECT TO A LATE VETERINARY EXAMINATION AND SUBSEQUENTLY BEING SCRATCHED. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LAVA FIRE (P Mxoli) was restless in the stalls. b) PLAY WITH FIRE (D De Gouveia) and EIGER SANCTION (J Gates) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 600m, EIGER SANCTION (J Gates) had to steady momentarily and was switched out when awkwardly placed on the heels of OFFICER IN COMMAND (M Yeni), which was carried in marginally by PLAY WITH FIRE (D De Gouveia). b) An inquiry will be opened to establish why OFFICER IN COMMAND (M Yeni) had to ease at approximately the 400m. c) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that VOLARE E MAMBO did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) ATARIME (R A Venniker), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) PLAY WITH FIRE: Jockey D De Gouveia weighed out at 54,9kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) VOLARE E MAMBO fatigued. b) GREEN SCEPTRE abnormal respiratory noise; mouth injury.
