Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) JAPANESE MAPLE (Wes Marwing) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) As the start was effected, the left-side front gate, on stall gate 3, bounced back making contact with Jockey M van Rensburg's (FIFTH OF JULY) left knee.
b) At approximately the 600m, BLACK LIGHTNING (J Gates) was brushed out by DIESEL'S SHADOW (G Lerena), which was directed outwards away from the heels of HAZLO GRANDE (P Mxoli).
c) In view of the performance of BLACK LIGHTNING (J Gates), which hung in badly from the 500m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) HAZLO GRANDE (P Mxoli) commenced to give ground to the field from the 300m. Thereafter, Jockey P Mxoli reported that HAZLO GRANDE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Trainer P F Matchett was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of HAZLO GRANDE on return to stables.
e) FIFTH OF JULY (M van Rensburg), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
