Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NAVY STRENGTH (G van Niekerk) was slow into stride. b) PAS DE NOM (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 250m NAVY STRENGTH (G van Niekerk) had to be checked and made contact with HOLDING THUMBS (D Schwarz), which in turn had to be steadied when racing on the inside of PAS DE NOM (C Zackey). Thereafter, FUTURE TURN (JP van der Merwe) was carried inwards and then had to be steadied when close to the heels of PAS DE NOM (C Zackey) at the 150m . A Stipendiary Steward called for a race review regarding this incident and after reviewing the video footage, was satisfied that while the interference suffered by NAVY STRENGTH (G van Niekerk), HOLDING THUMBS (D Schwarz) and to a lesser degree FUTURE TURN (JP van der Merwe) was significant, the result of the race had not been affected and therefore took no further action. An Inquiry will be held into this incident. b) Jockey D Schwarz reported that HOLDING THUMBS felt uncomfortable in its action. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) An Inquiry will be held into Jockey G van Niekerk's (NAVY STRENGTH) use of the crop. d) PAS DE NOM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer D Lilley, acting on behalf of Trainer DM Kannemeyer, was advised.
