THE STARTER REPORTED: a) A fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Shortly after the start SAVANTRIX (S Veale) was carried out marginally by NATIONAL AWARD (A Mgudlwa) which was bumped out by SALT 'N PEPPA (M Thackeray) which rolled out. b) NATIONAL AWARD (A Mgudlwa) and SAVANTRIX (S Veale) over-raced in the early stages. c) Leaving the 300m NATIONAL AWARD (A Mgudlwa) which raced green, was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the heels of NINETY NINE HEROS (T Godden) which was carried in by SAVANTRIX (S Veale) which rolled in. Thereafter NATIONAL AWARD (A Mgudlwa) continued to shift sharply both ways away from the crop. d) FRENCH FLAME (C Zackey) and PALERMO (K Matsunyane) came together and brushed on two occasions from the 250m. e) In view of the performances of KING'S ISLAND (S Hlengwa) (2.85 lengths, 16/1 in the betting) and NATIONAL AWARD (A Mgudlwa) (6.65 lengths, 10/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) SAVANTRIX (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
