THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LUCRETIUS (C Zackey) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Jockey T Godden appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride on CODE OF CONDUCT. Jockey T Godden explained to the Board that he was under the Trainer's instruction to take this gelding to a leading position. After encouraging CODE OF CONDUCT forward shortly after the start this gelding raced with its tongue over the bit which resulted in him commencing to over-race, proving difficult to assist. He further added that despite his efforts to restrain CODE OF CONDUCT this gelding raced in advance of the field and compounded in the straight. The Board noted and corroborated this explanation with the video evidence. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) In view of the performance of HIAWATHA GOLDBERG (N Patel) (17.10 lengths, 5/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) RASTIGNAC was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen analysed at 13h29 revealed a level of over 36 TCO2. mmol/L. In terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen was collected. Trainer Klaasen was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 13h41 had revealed a level of over the threshold of 38 mmol/L. Consequently RASTIGNAC was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h57, 10/1 in the betting). d) ALLAROUNDTHEWORLD (GB) (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G I Rich advised (DZ). e) CIRCLE OF GRACE (M V'Rensburg), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Spies advised (NS).
