THE STARTER REPORTED

A) VISTA NOVA, FOREIGN SOURCE and TARSUS were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED

A) Jockey R Munger reported that TARSUS did not stride out freely in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
B) Jockey J Mphanya reported that he felt something amiss with VALETORIO in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
C) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning VALETORIO (J Mphanya), and in terms of Rule 93.1, this filly is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer G D Smith was advised.
D) When questioned, Apprentice Y Ramzan the rider of MAGIC BLAZE told the Stewards that he was instructed to adopt this gelding's usual front running tactics and had taken the lead shortly after the start. He had set a fast tempo and had been in advance of the field until the closing stages. The gelding however, had unfortunately already come to the end of its run and gave ground abruptly. The Stewards told Apprentice Y Ramzan that while they accepted that this gelding was up in class today, he needs to ensure that his mounts close their races off as competitively as possible in future.
E) Trainer J V A Strydom's attention was drawn to the provisions of Rule 10.5.7 pertaining to TARSUS (R Munger) not having raced for 120 days or more at the time of entries.
F) The winner WHAT A WINNER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer J P Nel advised (LM).
