Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MIDWICKET dislodged Jockey A Arries while proceeding to the start, bolted the course and was subsequently withdrawn. b) CROWNED HORNBILL (R Khathi) and SICILY (M Mjoka) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter, were slow into stride. c) ELIZABEDI GOLD (A Domeyer), NEW YORK CITY (*I Taka) and WAVE OF GLORY (S Hlengwa) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) PHIL THE FLUTER (G van Niekerk) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led, riderless, by a Handler, causing a delay. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, it may be suspended. b) Jockey A Arries was examined by the course Medical Doctor and cleared fit to continue riding. c) After being slow to begin CROWNED HORNBILL (R Khathi) raced awkwardly with its head up when attempting to get cover in the early stages. d) Leaving the 200m, a tiring SEEKING THE LIFE (S Veale) had to be steadied away from the heels of ELIZABEDI GOLD (A Domeyer), which raced green and shifted out. Thereafter, ELIZABEDI GOLD (A Domeyer) commenced to hang out and shifted out, carrying BEAUTIFUL WINTER (O Noach) out onto PEANUT POPS (D Ashby) which, as a consequence, had to be steadied and carried GOLD SPLASH (JP van der Merwe) outwards. e) At the 50m NEW YORK CITY (*I Taka) was steadied and became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between SEEKING THE LIFE (S Veale) and WAVE OF GLORY (S Hlengwa). f) Jockey M Mjoka reported that SICILY made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) ELIZABEDI GOLD, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Mr M Bass was advised on behalf of Trainer C Bass-Robinson.
