THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PORFIRIO (K Matsunyane) became restless in the stalls as the start was effected. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Jockey S Moodley (MR HOTSTEPPER) appeared before the Board with regard to his riding in the early stages of this race. He stated that his intention was to race this gelding from a forward position with cover as per his instructions. He further explained that after starting only fairly from a wide draw, he elected to encourage MR HOTSTEPPER forward and take up a leading position rather than race wide of the field or ease this gelding back and take up a position at the rear of the field. The Board noted Jockey Moodley's explanation. b) In view of the performance of MR HOTSTEPPER (S Moodley) (5.85 lengths, 5/4 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) LUCRETIUS (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
