THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO A TECHNICAL PROBLEM WITH THE HAWK-EYE SYSTEM IN THE BOARDROOM. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) UNDER THE RAINBOW (+T Lukhele) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Work Rider X C Machaieie (KIVULI) briefly lost the grasp on his crop at the 400m. b) In view of the performance of MIST IN IRELAND (+P Mongqawa), (distance 16,25 lengths, betting 72/100), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) An inquiry will be opened into Work Rider A Feni's (SPY STORY) crop use during this race. d) UNDER THE RAINBOW (+T Lukhele), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Webber advised (MS). When questioned regarding the improved performance of this colt, Trainer B Webber could offer the Board no suitable explanation. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. e) KHICHDI (+S Valjalo), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MduP). WORK RIDER CHANGES: a) SPY STORY: Work Rider A Feni weighed out at 59,2kg, 1kg over the carded weight as declared b) BEVERLY BABY: Work Rider I Lukhele weighed out at 58,1kg, 3kg over the carded weight as declared. c) KIVULI: Work Rider X C Machaieie weighed out at 56kg, 1kg over the carded weight. Work Rider X C Machaieie was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on KIVULI, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with Trainer P F Matchett.
