Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SILVONIAN (C Maujean) was nervous in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 200m, WOMAN OF POWER (X Ndlovu) commenced to shift outwards. Thereafter, Jockey X Ndlovu pulled his crop and used it on WOMAN OF POWER's right-side hindquarter, which resulted in this filly shifting further outwards. As a consequence, at approximately the 50m, WOMAN OF POWER (X Ndlovu) made contact with MONTELENA (C Habib), which was hanging in and shifting inwards away from the crop from approximately the 150m to the 75m and was corrected. In this incident, MONTELENA (C Habib) hindquarters were turned. A race review was called by a Stipendairy Steward with regards to this incident, which was followed by Jockey C Habib, the rider of the joint first-placed MONTELENA, lodging an objection against WOMAN OF POWER (X Ndlovu), the joint first-placed horse on the grounds of interference and bumping in the latter stages. The Objection Board, after giving regard to the evidence put forward, reviewing the patrol films and giving consideration that the two horses concerned dead-heated, was satisfied that, but for this interference, MONTELENA (C Habib) would have finished ahead of WOMAN OF POWER (X Ndlovu) had this incident not occurred and therefore upheld the Objection. An Inquiry will be opened into why MONTELENA (C Habib) became unbalanced shortly before the finish line. b) FERRANDO (S Khathi) stumbled shortly after the start. c) Jockey R Fourie reported that ARTICUNO did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Trainer AC Greeff was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables. d) MONTELENA, the dead-heat winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
