Race 3: CAPE TURF CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (F & M) (For Maiden Fillies and Mares)

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	On arriving at the start, the bridle on FATE OF PACE (D Schwarz) had to be replaced.
b)	WINTERONTHEGREEN (C Orffer) was slow into stride.	

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, VIA DEL CORSO (R Danielson) cast its left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
b)	PAPILLON BLU (K Steyn) shifted both ways away from the crop between the 200m and the finish.
c)	FROM A DISTANCE (A Domeyer) was momentarily inconvenienced on two occasions when racing on the inside of HOPE CHEST (A Arries), which shifted in approaching the 150m and again at the 50m. Jockey A Arries appeared before the Board and was advised that the Stewards expected him to react sooner than he had on this occasion.
d)	Jockey A Andrews reported that he felt something amiss with BERRYCLIFFS and he did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
e)	VALLEYOFTHEDOLLS (G Wright) and BEZONDER (R Fourie) raced green.
f)	Jockey C Little was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline 3; Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking FIRST IN TOWN forward of the saddle at the 300m. Jockey C Little signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00.
g)	The Stewards examined the bridle that was fitted to FATE OF PACE and found it to be in good condition.
h)	HOPE CHEST, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.  Trainer ELP Steyn was advised. (TJ)
