Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	RAPIDASH (G van Niekerk) and THE FUTURIST (G Wright) were slow into stride.	

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	After being slightly slow to begin, THE FUTURIST (G Wright) commenced to over race, raced onto the heels of OTTO LUYKEN (C Orffer) and had to be steadied. As a consequence, THE FUTURIST (G Wright) was unable to be ridden in his normal racing style and was obliged to race behind runners until the 1200m, where he was directed outwards and allowed to race around the field. Thereafter, THE FUTURIST (G Wright) tired quickly in the straight. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
b)	At the 1400m WITHOUT QUESTION (RA Venniker) rolled in and made contact with ZAPATILLAS (K Matsunyane).
c)	Between the 250m and 150m FUTURE SWING (O Murphy) was held up for a clear run behind BARATHEON (R Danielson) and was directed outwards.
d)	Jockey JP van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline 3; Appendix E) 	in that he mis-used his crop by striking MAGIC VERSE forward of the saddle on three occasions in the latter 	stages. Jockey JP van der Merwe signed an admission of guilt and was fined R4 000.00. In determining 	penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the number of strikes, the status of the race and that two of the 	strikes were in close proximity to the horse's head.
e)	RASCALLION, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.  Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (TL)
f)	MAGIC VERSE, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.  Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (TL)
