THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m, a tiring FIRST IN TOWN (A Arries) was steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of PAST AND PRESENT (JP van der Merwe), which was carried inwards slightly by MY ONLY WEAKNESS (G van Niekerk). b) At the 300m GOLD INDEX (C Bantam) and WINTER'S DRAGON (S Veale) were steadied when tightened for galloping room between the inside running rail and TOTHEMOONANDBACK (M Winnaar), which was carried inwards by MELA STRENGTH (R Fourie), which was carried inwards by AVIGNON (K Steyn), which rolled inwards when directed inwards away from the heels of SUMMER NIGHT CITY (C Zackey), which shifted out slightly. c) Jockey A Arries reported that FIRST IN TOWN did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey R Fourie reported that he felt something amiss with MELA STRENGTH in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) SUMMER NIGHT CITY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
