Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a) THOMAS JENKINS (D Schwarz) reared as the start was effected, losing six lengths.
b) BEL CANTO DREAM (R Fourie) jumped outwards.
c) VICTOR HUGO (G Lerena) and SMART HORSE (L Mxothwa) were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a) The Stewards reviewed the start with regard to THOMAS JENKINS (D Schwarz) in stall gate 10 and established that this gelding had reared as the start was effected, had not been impeded and the ground lost by this gelding was as a result of its own behaviour. No further action was taken.
b) VICTOR HUGO (G Lerena) raced wide without cover in the early stages.
c) Jockey R Fourie reported that BEL CANTO DREAM, which raced prominently in the early stages, tired quickly in the straight and he did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of IT IS MY TIME compared to this colt's debut run on 14 December 2024, Trainer McLachlan told the Stewards that this colt, as reported, had been bumped severely on two occasions shortly after the start and that, in his opinion, this had a major impact on this colt's performance. Trainer McLachlan's explanation was noted.
e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding THOMAS JENKINS (D Schwarz), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to jump on terms with a companion. (Suspension dates: 16/01/2025 to 22/01/2025 inclusive). THOMAS JENKINS may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
f) IT IS MY TIME, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DA McLachlan was advised. (TL)
