Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	POTENT CAPTAIN (C Zackey) was nervous in the stalls and jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
b)	KANIMAMBO (M Yeni) and MISTER WHISTLE (J Gates) jumped slow, losing one length.	
	
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	SCAMPTON recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised that a 	second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level.
b)	POTENT CAPTAIN (C Zackey) and ARIVIDICIO (C Maujean) made contact shortly after the start. 
c)	MISTER WHISTLE (J Gates) over raced in the early and middle stages.
d)	PISCES (S Naidoo) was held up for clear running from the 250m and had to be switched out at approximately the 100m to obtain a clear run.
e)	FLASH LIGHTNING (D Schwarz) was hanging in from the 200m and was corrected.
f)	Jockey C Little reported that MR MOLONY did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g) 	Trainer JVA Strydom appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the improved performance of FLASH LIGHTNING. He explained to the Board that this gelding had not enjoyed his outing on the polytrack on 20th December 2024. He raced this gelding on the polytrack over 2000m on 30 December 2024 but this gelding did not enjoy the further distance. He elected to race FLASH LIGHTNING back on the turf over the correct distance and, in his opinion, this accounted for this gelding's improved performance. Trainer Strydom's explanation was noted, with a caution that this gelding's future performances will be closely monitored.
h)	FLASH LIGHTNING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised. (LM)
i)	POTENT CAPTAIN, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DA McKenzie was advised. (LM)
