THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DINERO (X Ndlovu) and VILA FOZ (C Maujean) were stubborn loading. b) ONO NO KOMACHI (R Fourie) was nervous in the stalls and slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) While the horses were parading, it was established that the saddles on AMERICAN PITBULL (J Gates) and LUCK STRUCK (E Webber), which were from the same stable, had been switched and were fitted to the incorrect horses. Both horses were withdrawn, causing a delay to the start of this race. An Inquiry will be opened into this incident. b) SILVERY SURFER took an awkward stride leaving the 300m and thereafter Jockey M Yeni reported that this colt made an abnormal respiratory noise. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) VILA FOZ (C Maujean) was hanging in from the 250m. d) The saddle on GRAND OASIS (C Little) slipped back in running. This was confirmed on the video patrol footage. e) Jockey D Schwarz reported that he felt something amiss with POENANKIES. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. POENANKIES (D Schwarz) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr K Davis) f) MAYOR OF MERRIVALE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised. (LM) g) ONO NO KOMACHI, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
