Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TENPENNY (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, GREEN OKRA (C Zackey) and COUNT WILLIAM (O Noach) made slight contact. b) Approaching the 1000m GREENLIGHT JET (M Winnaar), which commenced to over race, raced onto the heels of GREEN OKRA (C Zackey) and had to be steadied. As a consequence, the saddle on GREENLIGHT JET slipped forward badly, which resulted in Jockey M Winnaar being unable to assist this gelding. GREEENLIGHT JET finished tailed off. During this incident, a light weight cloth fitted under the saddle of GREENLIGHT JET came adrift. As a result, Jockey M Winnaar returned to the scale 0.4kg under the weight that he had been weighed out at. The Clerk of Scales, acting in terms of Rule 66.3.2, was satisfied that Jockey M Winnaar had not weighed back in more than 0.5kg under the weight at which he had weighed out and therefore did not lodge an objection and the Stewards allowed the All Clear to be given. c) Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 61.3.4 in that he failed to canter BRIGADIER BILLY in front of the stand before proceeding to the start. Jockey G van Niekerk signed an admission of guilt and was given a warning. d) TENPENNY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised.
