Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) POTENTE (K Sakayi) got its right hind leg caught up on the partition of the starting stalls, was removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.
b) CAPTAIN CATMAN (D Dillon) lost 1 length.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) At the 100m, POTENTE (K Sakayi) shifted in slightly, and thereafter was brushed out by SILVER DUCAT (*D Geerthsen) which shifted out away from the crop. Apprentice D Geerthsen appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to react sooner to correct his mounts when they shift ground in races in future.
b) Jockey R Khathi (BIG SLICK) reported that his saddle slipped back in the running.
c) Jockey M Yeni reported that HAYAT did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer F Robinson will be requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this colt on return to stables.
d) Jockey R Khathi signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse BIG SLICK more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey R Khathi the Board considered the number of times (18) Jockey R Khathi struck the horse BIG SLICK, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey R Khathi used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R2500 was imposed.
e) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse ACTION STATIONS more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Moodley the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse ACTION STATIONS, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Moodley used his crop and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed.
f) BIG SLICK (R Khathi), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Y Govender advised (LB).
