Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a)	SEA MASTER (S Veale) was stubborn to load. Trainer C Hewitson will be advised to re-school this gelding.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a)	GALWAY (D Dillon) was hanging in from the 200m.
b)	When questioned, Jockey D Schwarz the rider of FARLAND, told the Stewards that this gelding had jumped on terms and that he was able to obtain cover in line with his instructions which were to try and settle the gelding which has a history of over-racing. Approaching the 1100m, FARLAND commenced to take hold of the bit and he was concerned that he was too near to the heels of ASTROCYTE (W Kennedy) and sought relief from Jockey G Wright who was riding CONGO COMPAQ on his outside. Once Jockey G Wright became aware of his plight, he was able to direct FARLAND outwards and in doing so took CONGO COMPAQ outwards slightly. Immediately thereafter, FARLAND (D Schwarz) took charge of him and commenced to hang outwards and despite his efforts to restrain the gelding, it raced clear of the field and was wide and continued to hang out. Shortly after straightening, FARLAND (D Schwarz) commenced to give ground and finished tailed off. Jockey D Schwarz added that it was his opinion that 1700 metres is beyond the scope of the gelding, taking into consideration that it races keenly in the early and middle stages of its races and that the fitting of the cheek pieces did not assist this gelding racing in a relaxed manner. He informed the Stewards that he intended to provide his input to the Assistant Trainer representing the stable. The Stewards noted Mr D Schwarz's explanation and will discuss the racing manners of FARLAND with Trainer D Campbell.
c)	STRAIGHT UP (*K Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D C Howells advised (LB).
