Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GREEN GARNET (G van Niekerk) was stubborn loading. b) REGULATION (JP van der Merwe) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start WATER DRAGON (O Noach) lost position when bumped on both sides by MASTEROFTHEDESERT (A Domeyer) and GREEN GARNET (G van Niekerk), both of which shifted ground leaving the stalls. b) After being slow to begin WATER DRAGON (O Noach), which was ridden forward, had to be steadied when close to the heels of DEFINITELY YES (C Zackey) at the 1200m. c) At the 350m SCOTTISH LINKS (L Mxothwa) was carried outwards by GREEN GARNET (G van Niekerk), which shifted out. Jockey G van Niekerk appeared before the Board and was advised to take stronger measures to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances. d) Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with DEFINITELY YES and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey O Noach reported that WATER DRAGON was blowing post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding GREEN GARNET (G van Niekerk), Trainer AE Sands will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. g) Trainer VH Marshall was charged with a contravention of Rule 11.2.8 in that he presented WATER DRAGON incorrectly equipped in the parade ring. Trainer VH Marshall signed an Admission of Guilt and was given a warning. h) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of HONOR OF KINGS he misused his crop by striking HONOR OF KINGS more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey G Lerena signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. i) GREEN GARNET, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
