FLYING PREDATOR (J GATES) PROVED RELUCTANT TO PROCEED TO THE START AND HAD TO BE LED BY A HANDLER. THEREAFTER, EN ROUTE TO THE START, MO EXPRESS (J PENNY) PULLED ITS RIGHT FRONT SHOE WHICH WAS ATTENDED TO BY THE COURSE FARRIER. THE COURSE FARRIER WAS UNABLE TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT SHOE. AS A RESULT, AND IN CONSULTATION WITH TRAINER J A VISSER, HE REMOVED THE LEFT FRONT SHOE AND MO EXPRESS RACED UNSHOD IN FRONT. SHORTLY BEFORE THE LOADING PROCESS, FLYING PREDATOR (J GATES) WAS SUBJECT TO A LATE VETERINARY EXAMINATION AND PASSED FIT TO RACE. THESE INCIDENTS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RINGHO (N Klink) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) FLYING PREDATOR (J Gates) was slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FLYING PREDATOR (J Gates) proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer D Cason was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future, he may be suspended. b) FLYING PREDATOR failed to muster speed and trailed the field throughout. c) OLD FASHIONED (K Matsunyane) hung out throughout. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) MO EXPRESS (J Penny) commenced to give ground to the field from 300m. Thereafter, Jockey J Penny reported that he felt something amiss with this colt in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) JUST JAZZED UP (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) PURSUIT OF FAME raced equipped with blinkers and without cheek pieces (declared 24 February 2025 at 09H06). b) MO EXPRESS raced equipped with blinkers (declared 24 February 2025 at 09H07). c) TURF GURU raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 24 January 2025 at 09H07). d) TURF GURU raced with club colours (all black). Trainer J A Visser was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1 in that he did not have available the registered colours of the owner/s of TURF GURU. Trainer J A Visser signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R250 was imposed.
