Stipes Report
ON ARRIVAL AT THE START JOCKEY P STRYDOM EXPRESSED CONCERNS REGARDING THE SOUNDNESS OF POTBERRIE. THIS GELDING WAS EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON, WHO WAS OF THE OPINION THAT HE WAS FIT TO RACE. NOTWITHSTANDING THE VETERINARY SURGEON'S OPINION, JOCKEY P STRYDOM WAS STILL NOT COMFORTABLE TO RIDE POTBERRIE. AS NO REPLACEMENT RIDER COULD BE FOUND, POTBERRIE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SCRATCHED. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROYAL FORCE (G Lerena) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) BANFF (C Zackey) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SKITTLES SKIES (J Gates) hung out from the 400m and thereafter shifted out away from the crop. b) Jockey J Gates reported that SKITTLES SKIES did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) ROYAL FORCE (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Houdalakis advised (MS). Race 5 contd. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) PEACE TREATY raced equipped with cheek pieces (declared 24 January 2025 at 09H39). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SKITTLES SKIES moderate post race distress. b) TINTAMARRE abnormal respiratory noise. c) LAVA FIRE MILD post race distress. d) POTBERRIE examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
