THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO SALUTE THE FLAG (G LERENA) AND HAT TRICK OR TREAT (C ZACKEY) BEING SUBJECT TO A LATE VETERINARY EXAMINATION AT THE START. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAT TRICK OR TREAT (C Zackey) was restless in the stalls. b) WARHAWK BOMBER (Wes Marwing) stumbled leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, HAT TRICK OR TREAT (C Zackey) and SPY STORY (M K Katjedi) came together and brushed. b) At approximately the 150m, Jockey M Yeni (KUDZU) accidentally struck the colours cap from his skull cap. c) Shortly before the finish line, SALUTE THE FLAG (G Lerena) and SAFE SPACE (C Maujean) were eased when tightened for galloping room between WILLOW EXPRESS (P Strydom) and KING OF NUMBERS (J Gates), which was carried in by BIRTHRIGHT (*N Nastili), which hung in from the 200m. d) Jockey P Strydom reported that he felt something amiss with WILLOW EXPRESS in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) In view of the performance of SALUTE THE FLAG (G Lerena), (distance 6,00 lengths, betting 28/10), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the performance of HAZLO GRANDE (P Mxoli), (distance 11.25 lengths, betting 25/2), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) Jockey J Penny reported that he felt something amiss with COPPOLA in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. h) KUDZU (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (MS).
