THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GLOBAL BEAT (S Khathi) was stubborn loading.
b) IL LUNGO (S Khumalo) was nervous in the stalls.
c) SEATTLE BEAT (F Herholdt) and MASTER VISION (M Yeni) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) There was no head on camera angle available for the home straight in this race.
b) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, ELLIS ISLAND (M Mjoka) cast its right front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
c) At the 1000m GLOBAL BEAT (S Khathi) was unbalanced and lost position when it clipped the heels of SEATTLE BEAT (F Herholdt), which rolled in slightly when awkwardly placed on the inside of FLINDERS RANGE (E Webber), which proved difficult to settle and rolled in slightly. AUGUSTA GREEN (L Mxothwa) and MASTER VISION (M Yeni), which were following, were hampered and were switched out as a consequence. In assessing this incident, the Stewards determined that the respective movements that contributed to the incident were marginal and they could not sustain a charge against any individual rider. Nevertheless, Jockeys E Webber (FLINDERS RANGE) and F Herholdt (SEATTLE BEAT) were advised, wherever possible, to give more room to other runners where circumstances permit.
d) Jockey S Khumalo reported that IL LUNGO, which was hanging in and commenced to give ground from the 200m, made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) In view of the performance of GLOBAL BEAT (S Khathi), which finished tailed off, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
f) MY BOY REECEY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (SP)
