THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TRIED AND TRUE (N Qaule), MAGGIE SMITH (G Lerena) and SKY VELOCITY (K de Melo) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MAGGIE SMITH (G Lerena) over-raced in the early and middle stages and as a consequence, raced awkwardly around the turn and into the straight. Thereafter, MAGGIE SMITH (G Lerena) commenced to hang out from the 400m. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. b) SKY VELOCITY (K de Melo) hung in from the 200m. c) Apprentice P Mxoli reported that SMELTING changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. d) Jockey N Qaule was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking TRIED AND TRUE more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey N Qaule signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 750.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (14) and Jockey N Qaule's recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline (1). e) MADAME VICKI (J P van der Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee B Mngeni, acting on behalf of Trainer A G Laird, was advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) GAETANA raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 5 September 2022 at 08H51). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MAGGIE SMITH blood in the mouth. b) SMELTING examined post race, nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
