THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) During the loading process, RUN FOR THE SUN (J Penny) kicked the back gates. This gelding was removed from the stalls, examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently withdrawn. Trainer A B Fortune was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement (GT).
b) SUGAR BEACH (Wes Marwing) refused to load. The Starting Stall Certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn.
c) TRIDENT KING (M Khan) and GLOBAL APPROACH (K Matsunyane) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) In view of the Starter's report with regard to SUGAR BEACH, this gelding has been suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable loading and jumping on terms with a companion. Suspension dates: 28 September 2022 to 4 October 2022. SUGAR BEACH may not be presented for repassing during this period. Trainer F P Habib advised (GT).
b) GREENLIGHTFORGO (S Khumalo) proved difficult to settle in the early stages.
c) VUVUZELA UMLILO (M Thackeray) over-raced in the early and middle stages.
d) FUTUREWOLFF (R Munger) hung in from the 400m.
e) Leaving the 400m, GLOBAL APPROACH (K Matsunyane) was carried out marginally by GREENLIGHTFORGO (S Khumalo) which came under pressure and rolled out.
f) GREENLIGHTFORGO (S Khumalo) commenced to give ground to the field from the 300m, thereafter Jockey Khumalo reported that GREENLIGHTFORGO changed stride continually and made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g) In view of the performance of GLOBAL APPROACH (K Matsunyane), (betting 14/10, distance 7,90 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Assistant Trainer J Crawford was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables.
h) TRIDENT KING (M Khan), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Magner advised (AH).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) SUGAR BEACH was to be ridden by Jockey Wes Marwing. Permission granted for the jockey change as Jockey J P van der Merwe had family responsibility issues.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) FUTUREWOLFF raced with a tongue tie on (declared 22 September 2022 at 18H49).
b) GREENLIGHTFORGO raced with earmuffs (declared 27 September 2022 at 05H59).
c) BLACK LIGHTNING raced fitted with a compression mask on and a pressure halter (declared 26 September 2022 at 08H09).
d) LABRAUSCO raced without blinkers (declared 24 September 2022 at 19H50).
e) MASTER OF CHANGE Apprentice S Sosibo weighed out at 49,7kg, only claiming 2,5kg of his 4kg allowance. 1kg of overweight was declared.
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) GLOBAL APPROACH examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
b) SAMTHEWISEMAN blowing.
c) GREENLIGHTFORGO coughing.
SCRATCHED:
a) RUN FOR THE SUN injured in the stalls (NHA / 12H42) (Rule 53.5 applies) Betting 50/1.
b) SUGAR BEACH Intractable. Betting 80/1.
