THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SKYJET (*K A Brewer) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. b) COMMANDING POWER (K Matsunyane) was slow losing one length. c) HEPHAESTUS (M Thackeray) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After jumping awkwardly outwards and being slow into stride, HEPHAESTUS (M Thackeray) commenced to over-race and as a consequence of this, raced wide around the turn and into the straight. Thereafter HEPHAETUS gave ground to the field from the 400m. b) Between the 400m and the 300m, KING OF ROME (C Zackey) was carried in marginally by AFRICAN TORRENT (D De Gouveia) which shifted in away from the crop and was straightened. c) At approximately the 150m, OTTO LUYKEN (R Munger) was switched out in anticipation of running onto the heels of BATTLEGROUND (S Khumalo) which shifted in away from the crop. d) AFRICAN TORRENT (D De Gouveia), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (GF). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) HEPHAESTUS not striding out right front. b) OTTO LUYKEN blowing.
