THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RESPECTABLE MISS (X Ndlovu) and HEARTSEASE (JP van der Merwe) were stubborn loading. b) IDEAL ANGEL (Y Ramzan) and ANATURA (M Yeni) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GOLIGHTLY (R Fourie) pulled hard in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to settle. b) When questioned regarding his decision to allow IDEAL ANGEL to race around and to the front of the field between the 1200m and the 1000m, Jockey Y Ramzan told the Stewards that, after being slow to begin, the mare had commenced to over race when the pace of the race steadied approaching the 1000m. He then decided to allow IDEAL ANGEL to race more freely as he had been instructed not to fight the mare. He further stated that once the mare was in the lead, she had settled and although she had finished second, he felt that the mare had finished her race off fairly. Trainer SB Kotzen confirmed the riding instructions given to Jockey Y Ramzan and was of the opinion that the decision to allow IDEAL ANGEL to race around the field was reasonable, given the circumstances of the race. c) Jockey M Yeni reported that ANATURA did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) PRINCESS OF FIRE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised.
